Step Into God’s Dream for You

What’s your dream for your life? More importantly, what’s God’s dream for your life?

If you’re frustrated about where you are right now, dreaming is always the first step God uses in his process to change your life for the better. Everything starts as a dream.

Great faith inspires great dreams.

Great dreams require great faith.

In many ways, a great dream is a statement of faith. To courageously imagine or dream of a better future for yourself, for your family, or for others is an act of faith.

You are saying, “I believe that things can change and can be different, and I believe that God will enable me to accomplish it!”

Believing and trusting God always makes him happy. The Bible says, “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6 NIV).

But maybe you’ve been looking for rewards in life by seeking your own dreams. Maybe your career, your accomplishments, your possessions, or your relationships have taken all your focus, energy, and attention.

God’s dream for you is more than what you accomplish or attain. It’s a catalyst for personal change because that’s what God is most concerned about: preparing you for life with him in eternity.

God has long-range plans for you that will far outlast your brief time on earth. He’s looking at your life in light of eternity. The fact is this: any goal or dream that you envision happening here on earth will be short-term because everything on earth is temporary.

So will you choose God’s dream for your life, or will you choose your own dream? Or will you let someone else impose their dream on you?

The truth is, not all of your goals, passions, and ambitions are what’s best for you. Some dreams are unhelpful. Some are harmful. Some dreams end up being nightmares, and some lead to disaster.

The Bible says, “Some people think they are doing right, but in the end it leads to death”  (Proverbs 16:25 NCV).

This is why you should want God’s dream for your life, rather than your own or someone else’s. God’s dream for your life is infinitely better than anything you could dream up alone.

It won’t be easy, and it won’t be quick, but pursuing God’s dream is the greatest adventure you will ever experience.

And as you pursue it, you’ll see that figuring out and following God’s dream is a walk of faith. His dream usually is not spelled out in complete detail. You discover it one step at a time.

The Bible says, “The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day” (Proverbs 4:18 NLT).

That means God’s dream dawns on you. It becomes more and more clear with every step you take.

The pursuit of God’s dream requires a lot of patience. Patience is one of the most common tools God uses to build your faith. In fact, it takes more faith to wait than to take a risk, because waiting forces you to decide: Will you continue to trust God, or will you give up and walk away?

Isaiah 7:9 says, “If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all” (NIV).

So how is your faith? Is it strong or weak? Is it steady or stretched? These are important questions to answer because Jesus said, “Everything is possible for the person who has faith” (Mark 9:23 GNT).

Jesus also said, “According to your faith let it be done to you” (Matthew 9:29 NIV).

In other words, there’s a lot riding on your faith! Your faith affects how much God blesses your life.

You might think your faith isn’t strong enough to follow God’s dream. Sure, it is!

The faith you have is enough to get started. Jesus said you need faith only the size of a mustard seed to move a mountain. Do you only have baby faith? Then take a baby step. When you do, your faith will grow for the next step.

Take your first baby step today. And another one tomorrow. And as you keep going, you’ll start to discover God’s dream for your life and the incredible adventure he has waiting for you.

God uses a predictable pattern of six phases to build your faith. Once you understand these six phases, you can better cooperate with God in the strengthening of your faith and building of your character while experiencing the great adventure of pursuing God’s dream for your life.

You can discover and explore these six phases of faith in my brand-new book, Created to Dream: The 6 Phases God Uses to Grow Your Faith.
