When people don’t want to talk about death, it’s usually because they’re afraid of it, because they’re uncertain about what’s beyond death. And that fear comes from being uncertain of their relationship with God.
But death is inevitable. It comes certainly, and often it comes suddenly. Death is the great equalizer. The Bible tells us, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27 KJV).
Doesn’t it seem foolish to live your life unprepared for something that you know will happen? Life becomes so much more enjoyable when you’re confident of what’s going to happen to you after you die.
God doesn’t want you to fear death. He wants to set you free from that fear. How does he do that? By letting you get to know him so well that, when you die, you’re just shifting gears. You’re graduating and coming home. When you know what’s going to happen to you when you die, it takes pressure off the living.
The Bible says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV).
What’s enslaving you today? Whatever it is, you don’t have to put up with it. God sent Jesus Christ to earth to die for your sins and provide a better way of living. That’s real freedom. That’s the Good News.
I urge you to receive Jesus into your life, not because you might die tonight, but because you have to live tomorrow. What Jesus did on the cross offers genuine freedom.
