OUR BELIEFS
What we believe about God and the world around us shapes every aspect of our lives. Without a commitment to truth and the authority of God, our culture begins to crumble. A strong foundation of shared beliefs and purposes is essential. Let’s explore what we believe and why it matters.
Exploring What We Believe
OUR VALUES
We were made by God, and we were made for God. Until we understand that, life won’t fully make sense. The only way we’ll ever know the purpose for our lives is to talk to God, our Creator, and read the owner’s manual for life, the Bible. God calls us to learn the Word, love the Word, and live the Word—to “be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22 ESV). We do this by living out God’s five purposes for our lives—the five things God put us on earth to do.
Understanding God’s 5 Purposes for Your Life
Worship: We Were Made to Know and Love God
We are alive today because God chose for us to be here and desires a relationship with us. We exist for his benefit, his glory, his purpose, and his pleasure—and he wants us to center our lives around him. Jesus said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment" (Matthew 22:37-38 NIV).
Fellowship: We Were Made to Love Others in God's Family
God made us because he wanted a family—and that family is called the church. When we learn to love others in God's family, that's called fellowship. Ephesians 1:5 says, “His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into his own family by sending Jesus Christ to die for us” (NLT).
Discipleship: We Were Made to Become Like Christ
God’s vision for us is that we become like Christ through the Word of God. "For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son" (Romans 8:29 TLB). Ultimately, the Christian life is about growing in our relationship with Jesus as the Holy Spirit changes us from the inside out.
Ministry: We Were Made to Serve God By Serving Others
God has given each of us the opportunity to make a real difference in our communities and around the world. Anytime we use our talents to help others in the name of Jesus, we are using our SHAPE: our spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences. The Bible says, “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other” (1 Peter 4:10 TLB).
Evangelism: We Were Made to Share the Good News with Others
Once we understand how much God loves us—and that we can have our past forgiven, a purpose for living, and a home in heaven—he wants us to tell others. The Bible says, “Through Christ, God made peace between us and himself, and God gave us the work of telling everyone about the peace we can have with him” (2 Corinthians 5:18 NCV). Sharing the Good News of Jesus is the most important mission on earth.
